==Monster Types==
All monsters fit into 3 classifications: Demons, Undead, or Animals. Demons and Undead are labeled in the game. Monsters without a label are all animals.
* Undead monsters take 150% damage from blunt weapons.
See the [[Experience]] page for much more detail.
==Monsters Monster Spellsand Projectiles==
Monster spells always hit. Monster projectiles (arrows, spikes, blow darts, etc) have the same sort of to/hit check as melee attacks. Some monster projectiles (Spear Cat javelins) will never hit mercs or other player minions. This can be dangerous to a player standing behind the battle.
==Immunities==
Some monsters have Immunities to Magic, Physical Damage, Poison Damage and Elemental Damage, and will take no damage from such attacks. Immunities were quite common in v1.09, but this aspect of the game was rebalanced in v1.10 and now in v1.11 relatively few monsters are immune. Physical immunity is the least common type of immunity, since so many characters rely chiefly on physical damage. This When a monster is listed as immune, it means the monster's resistance is above 95%. Immunities can be "broken" by various skills and spells, such as Lower Resistance, Conviction, Amplify Damage and others. These skills will not always break an immunity, since they have 100simply lower that resistance by a stated value; if a monster has such high resistance that the total value remains above 95% Resistance, it will still be immune. A few Many boss monsters in Normal Difficulty have Immunitiesgain immunities from their [[Monster Modifiers]] on Nightmare and especially on Hell difficulty. In Nightmare DifficultyFor instance, more monsters have Immunitiesthe Stone Skin modifier adds 50% physical resistance. In If a monster type has 50% physical resistance on Hell Difficulty almost all Monsters are , a boss with Stone Skin would increase to 100%, and become physical immune to something.
How can I damage Physical Immune Monsters as a Melee Character?
Melee characters need to use Magical or Elemental Skills or Weapons with Elemental (Fire/Lightning/Cold) or Poison Damage. Paladins can use Vengeance and Barbarians can use Berserk. You can also use your Hirelings such as Act III Hirelings to help out or rely on other party members. Elemental Damage Charms also work very well. Collect high damage Elemental Charms.
Monster Health ==Hit Point RegenerationOn higher difficulty levels, Monsters regenerate health very quickly. Start a Hell Difficulty game and attack a monster until he's almost dead. Stop attacking him and place your mouse over the Monster to see his Health Bar. Notice his health quickly regenerates if you don't attack him. You can use the magic bonus "Prevent Monster Heal" on weapons to stop monsters from regenerating. It's important to finish monsters off, and to stay on the same target (hold down the mouse button on a monster), so that monsters do not regenerate back to full health while you're not attacking them.==
Monsters on Nightmare DifficultyOn Nightmare Difficulty, Monster Level, All monsters regenerate their hit pointsat varying rates. Bosses do so faster than regular monsters, Armor Class, Experience, Damage, Chance and the rate increases with the difficulty level. Poison damage (easily added to Hit, physical damage from charms) and Resistances all go up"Prevent Monster Heal" items will stop hit point regeneration entirely.
