D1 Unique Swords

7,733 bytes added, 07:02, 8 August 2008
no edit summary
Unique swords in Diablo and Hellfire. Swords get a 50% damage bonus against animals, and are extremely useful during the middle levels, with the preponderance of animals in the Cats and Caves. The only animal in Hell is the lava dog; everything else is a demon (Hell Witches are animals in Hellfire, but not in Diablo), but swords are still the most popular melee weapon type there since they do higher damage than any of the one-handed blunts.
While none of the unique swords can match up with a good magical sword for the end game on hell difficulty, most of them are useful at earlier stages of a character's progression.

Griswold's Edge
This sword is the quest reward for the Anvil of Fury, and is generally a substantial upgrade in the weapon department for any melee-fighting character who has just reached level 10. The fast attack and damage are nice, but the knock back tends to be annoying, against most monster types.
* Griswold's Edge
* (Broad Sword)
* Damage: 4-12
* +1-10 Fire Damage
* +25% Chance to Hit
* Fast Attack
* Knocks Target Back
* +20 Mana

Gibbbous Moon
Fight in the darkness. Sneaky!

Shadowhawk
Yet another bird-named unique sword. Quite a theme they established. One that was not continued in D2, thankfully.
* Shadowhawk
* (Broad Sword)
* Damage: 4-12
* -20% Light Radius
* Hit steals 5% Life
* +15% To Hit
* +5% Resist All
* Requirements: 40 strength
* Durability: 50
* Qlvl: 8
* Availability: SP and MP.

Doombringer
With one of the better unique item names in the game, it's no surprise this one returned as an elite unique in D2X.
* Doombringer
* (Bastard Sword)
* Damage: 6-15
* +25% Chance to Hit
* +250% Damage
* -5 to all Attributes
* -25 Hit Points
* -20% Light Radius
* Requirements: 50 strength
* Durability: 60
* Qlvl: 19
* Availability: SP and MP.

The Grizzly
A cool item graphic and item, but since it's a two handed sword, it's virtually never used in the game.
* The Grizzly
* (Two Handed Sword)
* Damage: 8-16
* +20 Strength
* -5 Vitality
* +200% Damage
* Knocks Target Back
* High Durability
* Requirements: 65 strength
* Durability: 150
* Qlvl: 23
* Availability: SP and MP.

The Grandfather
Probably the most famous name for any unique in the game, which returned in D2X as an elite unique. It's odd too, since the item is not very good in Diablo, and was chiefly memorable for being a two handed sword that could be used in one hand.
* The Grandfather
* (Great Sword)
* Damage: 10-20
* One-handed
* +5 to all Attributes
* +20% Chance to Hit
* +70% to Damage
* +20 Hit Points
* Requirements: 75 strength
* Durability: 100
* Qlvl: 27
* Availability: SP and MP.

Hellfire Unique Swords
The following can only be found in Hellfire. All of the Diablo unique swords can be found in Hellfire as well.

Diamondedge
Nice theme on this item; pity the damage wasn't high enough to make it more viable.
* Diamondedge
* (Long Sword)
* Damage: 2-10
* +50% Chance to Hit
* +100% Damage
* +50% Resist Lightning
* Armor Class: 10
* Altered Durability
* Requirements: 20 strength, 30 dexterity
* Durability: 10
* Qlvl: 17
* Availability: SP and MP.

Eater of Souls
Another sword with potential to be useful, but undone by the two-handed nature of it. Should have been made 1h; even the graphic looks one-handed.
* Eater of Souls
* (Two-Handed Sword)
* Damage: 8-16
* +50 Hit Points
* Hit Steals 5% Life & 5% Mana
* Constantly lose Hit Points
* Requirements: 65 strength
* Durability: Indestructible
* Qlvl: 23
* Availability: SP and MP.

Shiotachi
Not a bad item, with the fastest attack and armor penetration. A step down in damage from a top quality bastard sword, though.
* Shiotachi
* (Great Sword)
* Damage: 10-20
* One-handed sword
* Fastest Attack
* Penetrates Armor
* +6 Lightning Damage
* Requirements: 75 strength
* Durability: 100
* Qlvl: 21
* Availability: SP and MP.
