Blizzard release the event schedule for the WWI, and there's a press conference scheduled after the first day's events, something they've not done at previous events except when a new game was announced. [http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=666591 Source]

Xfire promotes their WWI coverage with the following quote:

:Get behind the scenes with Xfire during WWI to:<br>
Follow the opening ceremony and discover what new game will be announced in our chat rooms.

This is quickly amended to remove the part about a new game, but there's no explanation given if it was a secret-blowing slip up, or simply an error by whoever typed up the item. [http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=665471 Source].

German PC Action magazine follows in PC Gamer's footsteps by teasing the game announcement they'll be making in their next issue, and by using some very Diablo-themed phrasing, stating that they will not reveal the game until the issue goes on sale, even if "hell froze over and cows gave beer." * The next day they released another tease, with a tiny 11x11 pixel screenshot of nothing recognizable.

* Another tease follows the day after, in which they mention that fans are speculating which game it might be. They accompany that with another tiny screenshot excerpt, this one showing Diablo-like flames. Incredibly, the jpg file is called [http://www.pcaction.de/screenshots/medium/2008/06/pic_d3_2.jpg pic_d3_2.jpg]. This is either a huge mistake and oversight by someone on the magazine staff, or they're having too much fun teasing the fans. [http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=665270 Source].

* The cover is revealed a week later and there's nothing about ''Diablo III'' to be seen. Also, the fire screenshot appears to be from the Fallout 3 image in the lower middle. (Compare to the flames on the top right corner of that small box.) [http://www.pcaction.de/covers/large/PCA_0708_Cover_DVD16.jpg Source]

PCGamer teases their upcoming issue, saying they had to go to hell to report to get the preview for their next issue, which will debut an unannounced sequel to a major computer game title. An announcement that sets off much '''Diablo III''' speculation. [http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=659886 Source]. * Blizzard comments with a no comment the next day. [http://forums.diabloii.net/showthread.php?t=660104 Source]. * The rumor dies a quick death the next day when PC Gamer confirms states that the game in question is not '''Diablo III'''. Analysis of the "top secret" Blizzard job openings indicates that there are two unannounced projects underway. Half the job openings offer a chance to join, "the team that created ''Diablo'' and ''Diablo II''," and the other half mention "a next-generation MMO." [[Diablo_3#Top_Secret.2C_Non-MMO.3F|Source]].
