Tal Rasha was one of the greatest Horadric Mages ever to live. He hunted for Baal after the Dark Exile and sought to bind Baal to a Soulstone like his brothers Diablo and Mephisto. However, during their battle, the Soulstone Tal Rasha was intending to use was broken. Tal Rasha took up the largest piece of the crystal and thrust it into Baal, temporarily trapping his soul. However, knowing this wouldn't last for long, he also had his brothers restrain him inside a tomb, and then thrust the stone into his body, to leave him to wrestle with the demon for eternity.

The cloth which people used to be swaddled in before they were interred were sometimes known as wrappings, so this set could be made up of the items in which Tal Rasha was buried in, although in the Diablo cinematics Tal Rasha does not appear as characters do when wearing the full set of Tal Rasha's Wrappings.

It's only available in D2X.

Diablo II Item

While the full set is designed for (and can only be equipped by, thanks to the Orb) a Sorceress, the armor is a very popular item for all types of characters and even mercs, thanks to the huge Magic Find, defense, and resistance.

It's also common to find magic find-geared characters of all types using the armor, helm, and belt, since equipping any three items from this set grants a 65% bonus to Magic Find, and the armor, helm, and belt hold substantial bonuses, including dual leech, high resistance, magic find, and much more.

Development

This item was first seen in Diablo II: Lord of Destruction together with a host of other Item Sets. Significant changes to the game made some item sets less useful and others more so. Runewords became the over-all long-term gear goal for players, taking some shine away from item sets.
