NPC

From Diablo Wiki

Short for 'Non-Player Character'.
Any computer-controlled character of (some) depth.

These generally offer conversation, trade and/ repair services, granting of quests, or rewards for quest completion.
NPCs can also be opposition or competition, as non-generic enemies of some character depth.

Examples of NPCs in Diablo 2:
Flavie, Decard Cain, Meshif, Hratli, Jamella and Nihlathak.
