D1 Unique Armor
Unique Body Armor found in Diablo and Hellfire.
Like most types of unique items in Diablo and Hellfire, most of the unique armor is only of use in special situations, and high level characters are going to prefer good quality magical gear. There are some exceptions though, and alll of the unique armor is useful at low levels.
Diablo Unique Armor
The following items are found in Diablo and Hellfire.
Torn Flesh of Souls
A nice item if found early on. Plus the name is quite clever, and the item graphic and sound when equipped is delightfully awful.
- Torn Flesh of Souls
- (Rags)
- Armor Class: 8
- +10 to Vitality
- -1 Damage from Enemies
- Requirements: None
- Durability: Indestructible
- Qlvl: 2
- Availability: SP and MP.
Nightscape
Not one of the more popular unique armors. The severe light radius reduction can be helpful for melee fighters who do not wish to activate very many monsters at once, but the very low AC doesn't work well with that style of character.
- Nightscape
- (Cape)
- Armor Class: 15
- +3 to Dexterity
- -40% Light Radius
- +20% Resist All
- Faster Hit Recovery
- Requirements: None
- Durability: 12
- Qlvl: 16
- Availability: SP and MP.
Rainbow Cloak
Nice low level mage armor.
- Rainbow Cloak
- (Cloak)
- Armor Class: 10
- +1 to all Attributes
- +10% Resist All
- +5 to Life
- High Durability
- Requirements: None
- Durability: 27
- Qlvl: 2
- Availability: SP and MP.
Wisdom's Wrap
Another decent mage armor, if found early on.
- Wisdom's Wrap
- (Robe)
- Armor Class: 15
- +5 to Magic
- +10 Mana
- +20% Resist Lightning
- -1 Damage from Enemies
- Requirements: None
- Durability: 24
- Qlvl: 5
- Availability: SP and MP.
Leather of Aut
Like most unique armor in Diablo, this one is useful at low levels, but not deeper in the labyrinth or on higher difficulty levels.
- Leather of Aut
- (Leather)
- Armor Class: 15
- +5 to Strength
- +5 to Dexterity
- -5 to Magic
- Requirements: None
- Durability: Indestructible
- Qlvl: 4
- Availability: SP and MP.
Gladiator's Bane
Like most unique armor in Diablo, this one is useful at low levels, but not deeper in the labyrinth or on higher difficulty levels. The name was reused for an elite unique armor in Diablo II.
- Gladiator's Bane
- (Studded Leather Armor)
- Armor Class: 25
- -2 Damage from enemies
- -3 to all Attributes
- High Durability
- Requires: 20 strength
- Durability: 135
- Qlvl: 6
- Availability: SP and MP.
Arkaine's Valor
Arkaine's Valor can only be found in single player, as the reward for completing the Arkaine's Valor quest. It's extremely useful at that point, because it is virtually guaranteed to be a considerable upgrade over any armor found to that point in the game. The usefulness of this armor declines as your character moves deeper into the labyrinth, since the AC isn't very high, but it's not uncommon for low strength characters to wear it all the way through normal difficulty and beyond.
Even if wearing it isn't your desire, it's still quite a nice item to obtain, with a selling price over 10,000 gold.
- Arkaine's Valor
- (Ring Mail)
- Armor Class: 25
- +10 to Vitality
- -3 Damage from enemies
- Fastest hit recovery
- Requirements: None
- Durability: 40
- Qlvl: N/A
- Availability: Single player only.
Scavenger Carapace
An unimposing item, but the -15 damage makes it extremely useful during the early and mid-game, before monsters hit for very high damage. Characters do not actually heal from damage that does less than 15 points, but this item, especially when paired with a few other -damage items, can make crowds of fast hitting monsters entirely irrelevant. Reducing damage makes it less likely your character will be stunned, too.
In multiplayer this item is bugged. Equip it, drop it, and pick it back up to see the AC increase to almost the maximum possible value of 250.
- Scavenger Carapace
- (Breastplate)
- Armor Class: -6 to -10 (bugged, can be 250)
- +5 to Dexterity
- -15 Damage from Enemies
- +40% Resist Lightning
- Requirements: 40 str
- Durability: 80
- Qlvl: 13
- Availability: SP and MP.
Sparkling Mail
One of the few non-weapons that add weapon damage in Diablo or Hellfire. The 1-10 lightning damage can be important, especially early in the game. Unlike elemental bows there is no evidence of glitch damage with this item.
- Sparkling Mail
- (Chain Mail)
- Armor Class: 30
- Lightning Hit 1-10
- Requires: 30 Strength
- Durability: 55
- Qlvl: 9
- Availability: SP and MP.
Naj's Light Plate
Probably the most useful of the unique armors, this one is popular with Sorcerers (especially Artillery Mages) or other players playing in mage mode. It's very low defense makes it dangerous to use if there will be any close range combat, though.
- Naj's Light Plate
- (Plate Mail)
- Armor Class: 40-50
- +5 to Magic
- +20 Mana
- +20% Resist All
- Spells are increased 1 level
- Requirements: None
- Durability: 75
- Qlvl: 19
- Availability: SP and MP.
Demonspike Coat
This armor has nice stats, but the overall AC is far too low for it to be a viable choice on Hell difficulty.
Due to a bug in the item generation mechanism this armor is unfindable in MP in Hellfire, and is virtually impossible to find in singleplayer.
- Demonspike Coat
- (Full Plate)
- Armor Class: 100
- -6 Damage from enemies
- +10 to Strength
- +50% resist fire
- Requires: 90 str
- Durability: Indestructible
- Qlvl: 25
- Availability: SP and MP.
Hellfire Unique Armor
All of the Diablo unique armor can be found in Hellfire as well. The below armors can only be found in Hellfire. In theory, at least. Two of them can't be found at all, due to a bug in the item generation.
Bone Chain
A useful mid-level armor, though it's rather limited in the bonus stats. The AC bonus against the Undead is a nice touch, but it's not enough to make this a viable late game armor, especially since there are no undead in hell and only a few in the crypt.
- Bone Chain
- (Chain Mail)
- Armor Class: 40
- Extra 60 AC vs the undead
- Requirements: 30 str
- Durablity: 55
- Qlvl: 13
- Availability: SP and MP. Hellfire only.
Bovine Plate
This Easter Egg armor can only be obtained as the quest reward for the hidden The Jersey's Jersey quest quest. It must be enabled with the command.txt exploit.
- Bovine Plate
- (Plate Mail)
- Armor Class: 150
- +50% light radius
- +30% resist all
- -5 damage from enemies
- -2 to all spell levels
- -50 mana
- Required: 50 Strength
- Durability: Indestructible
- Qlvl: N/A
- Availability: SP only. Special command.txt quest only.
Demon Plate
High defense against demons, who are virtually all the monsters you see in the hell levels leading up to Diablo. Due to a bug in the item generation mechanism, this is the only unique Full Plate Mail that can be be found in multiplayer Hellfire.
- Demon Plate
- (Full Plate)
- Armor Class: 80
- Extra 120 AC vs demons
- Requirements: 90 str
- Durability: 90
- Qlvl: 25
- Availability: SP and MP. Hellfire only.
Armor of Gloom
An interesting item, with the highest possible AC, penalized by 0% resistance to all. This would be the ultimate armor for a melee character on a level without witches or mages, but the bug in the item generation mechanism makes it virtually nonexistent. It can only be found in single player mode, if the unique Demon Plate has already been found in the same game.
- Armor of Gloom
- (Full Plate)
- Armor Class: 255
- All resistances = 0
- -20% light radius
- Requirements: None
- Durability: 90
- Qlvl: 25
- Availability: SP and MP. Hellfire only.
