is a Monster |
Shenk the Overseer is a Demon, and an Overseer.
Shenk the Overseer is found in the Bloody Foothills, very near the stairs up to the Frigid Highlands. He's hard to miss, since he always spawns completely surrounded by Minions, on a raised platform in the center of the level.
- He must be killed to complete the first quest in Act Five.
- Shenk's corpse can not be targeted with Find Item. He's one of very few monsters in the game that is so blessed.
- Shenk the Overseer is named after Phil Shenk, the lead artist on Diablo II, who is reported to be a very nice guy, and not a whip cracking disciplinarian like his namesake.
- Shenk has a unique death event which is basically a bombardment of catapult shots falling around the area near his corpse. This "catapult rain" is harmless to characters but kills all monsters within a full screen radius of Shenk's corpse, which can be useful in certain cases.
Note: When Shenk spawns with the multiple shots modifier (only applicable in Nightmare and Hell difficulty) and is killed, a programming error causes the catapult rain to load three times at once (prior to patch 1.11). Depending on the player's machine power and/or video mode, this may result in a temporary display overload causing a dramatic reduction in frame-rate (as low as 1 FPS) as well as causing all other objects to disappear for a moment. This is best avoided when retreating a few screens away when the catapult rain begins.
All values are listed by difficulty level: Normal / Nightmare / Hell.
Statistics
- The TC/Rune drops listed are the highest Treasure Class/Rune Group a normal monster of that type can drop.
- Champions and Bosses can sometimes drop from the next higher TC.
- The max TC/Rune possible depends on which level a monster spawns in, and can vary slightly from the listed values (monsters that spawn in later levels can drop higher level items). See the item calculators to ascertain precisely what a monster from a given area can drop.

Offense
Shenk the Overseer is always Extra Strong. He gains 1 random modifier on Nightmare and 2 on Hell.
- Shenk's listed number of minions, 3/4/6, is misleading since he always spawns in the midst of about twenty Minions. Only a few of them are technical his minions, the rest are just part of the level spawn, though this makes no appreciable difference to the player.
- Overseers possess a Smite bonus to their melee attack that will sometimes stun the target.
- When Lashers whip their minions, they either turn them into Suicide Minions, or heal them while granting them substantial combat bonuses:
- Healing: 10-20 / 25-35 / 45-55
- Speed: +80%
- Attack value: +80%
- Defense: +50%
- Damage: +100%

Defenses
Like most SuperUniques, Shenk does not regenerate hit points.
- Regen Rate tells what % of a monster's hit points are recovered per second. Standard is 1.2/sec.
- Blocking tells what % of successful, blockable attacks will not damage the monster. Monsters need not carry a shield to block.
- Drain Effectiveness tells what % of a character's mana and life steal apply to that monster. 100 is all, 0 is none.
- Chill Effectiveness tells what % of a character's cold length applies to the monster. 100 is all, 0 is no freeze/chill at all.

Resistances
- Resistances over 99% are listed as immunities and monsters will take no damage from that type of attack.
- Immunities can be "broken" by skills that lower resistance, if the value drops below 99%. See the Resistances page for more details.
