Fallen One Bosses, both spear and sword.

All boss monsters in Diablo and Hellfire are SuperUniques; they always appear on the same level and have preset stats and non-random modifiers. Some bosses (mostly ones tied to quests) appear in every single game, while most of the others are found on a particular level only if their base monster type spawns in that game. There are no non-quest bosses in Hellfire's Hive or Crypt.

Most boss stats are identical to the stats of regular monsters of their type. All of their speed measurements are unchanged, and most bosses have the same AC, to/hit, are worth the same experience, etc.

Retreat Mode[edit]

When any monster is killed, any Fallen within five squares (of the dead monster) will be set to Retreat Mode. While retreating Fallen scatter away from the spot of the death, without regard to their course. They may therefore walk right into a character if the dead monster was killed by a ranged attack. How long they retreat varies by type:

  • Fallen One: 7 squares
  • Carver: 5 squares
  • Devil King: 3 squares
  • Dark One: 2 squares

Retreat modes do not stack or reset. A fallen will keep retreating until the time runs out, when it resets to normal mode. If other monsters are killed while the Fallen is retreating, its AI will not be impacted.

War Cry Mode[edit]

Bladeskin the Slasher.

Any Fallen may cast a war cry. When they issue a war cry the Fallen will leap up and scream, while gesturing with their weapon. (Note that some types of Fallen, such as Shadowcrow's vanishing boss pack, cast a war cry every time they materialize.) This causes any other Fallen in range to enter war cry mode, during which they gain hit points and a faster attack. Hit point bonus:2 x IntF + 2 hit points. The current hit points will never exceed their maximum value, so this does nothing for the health of full strength Fallen, though it can help wounded ones quite a bit. The range (to be buffed by the Fallen casting war cry) and duration of this buff varies by type:

  • Fallen One: 4 squares distance, 5.25 second duration.
  • Carver: 5 squares distance, 6.75 second duration.
  • Devil Kin: 6 squares distance, 8.25 second duration.
  • Dark One: 7 squares distance, 9.75 duration.

This buff is canceled when the Fallen enter Retreat Mode, which usually happens long before the duration runs out.

Statistics[edit]

Shadowcrow and his entire mob have the AI and behavior of [ [Hidden]]. They are invisible until they move within a few spaces of your character, at which point they de-cloak with a leap and a yell, casting their Warcry.

  • Stats are listed by Normal / Nightmare / Hell difficulty levels.
  • MFL: Magic / Fire / Lightning.
    • I = Immune
    • R = Resistant (75%)
    • - = no resistance or immunity to that element
      • No monsters in Diablo or Hellfire have any physical resistance or immunity.
  • Dlvl = Dungeon Level. The boss will be found on this level only if the base monster type spawns on that level.
  • Mob = Some bosses spawn with a mob. The number of minions in the mob generally increases with difficulty level. Minions have the same stats as normal monsters of their type.
  • IntF = Intelligence Factor. Values are from 0-3; smarter monsters will pursue more doggedly, and the value is used in various calculations. Monsters that can Follow if you break the line of sight or open Doors are marked with F and D.

Combat Stats[edit]

  • Hit Points listed are for Diablo. All SuperUniques have a preset, non-random amount of hit points. Bosses have slightly higher hit points in Hellfire:
    • Hellfire Single Player: +0 / +49 / +97
    • Hellfire Multiplayer: +0 / +99 / +197
  • Attack Type: Some bosses have different AI, and behave like monsters of another type. Oddities in this category are bolded to catch the eye. More information on attack types can be found on the Diablo Monsters page.
